What have we done so far?
Here is some of our previous activities! Every year, since 2014 we organize breaking of Ramadan fast and Czech-Syrian Christmas. But how it all started? Which other events we organized? Just read down below :)
MEETING OCTOBER
Friday 17/10/2014, cultural-gastronomic minifestival in Trojka
Syrian and Czech community met together for informal meeting, tasted traditional cuisine, listened to Arabic and Czech music, danced and enjoyed cheerful meeting together. Fundamental ideas and program of our Syrian-Czech project were introduced to visitors (Czech and Syrians from Brno and Be International). We introduced our Facebook page and web page.

30/10/2014 happening in the streets Brno
International project Streetgizer will host 30 participants form 10 countries in Brno for a week. This project, organized by Be International, is dedicated to nonviolent street action and youth work. One group of participants will organize a happening in order to rise awareness about Czech-Syrian partnership. They will cooperate with our Syrian team from SYRECZECH which will bring expertise and explain what the project is about.
BEHIND THE CURTAIN NOVEMBER
Thursday 13/11/2014, discussion about civic society with NGOs
KLÁRA BEDNÁŘOVÁ (People in Need), ACTIVIST FROM LIBYA (on Skype), JARDA VALŮCH (advisor and consultant for civic initiatives via video message) and SYRIANS who lived in Syria this Thursday on November 13th from 19:00 in Otevřená zahrada in Brno. Arabic food was included ❤. We discussed various topics such as work of People in Need in Libya and Egypt, situation in these countries and so on. Learn more details about the event here.
Thursday 27/11/2014 - Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Migration in the Czech Republic.
Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Migration in the Czech Republic - ask the head of the mission of International Organization for Migration Lucie Sládková! Meet her at 19:00 on the 3rd floor in the room n. U32 at Faculty of Social Studies in Brno.
How to avoid or fight human rights violations, discrimination and exploitation? What are the best migration rumours? What about Czech majority and attitude towards migrants? All of this questions were discussed at this event.

According to the United Nations, there are 3,204,751 Syrian refugees registered. Take part in solidarity collection in Brno and give clothes, blankets and shoes to Syrian refugees. We cooperate with Humanic Relief, humanitarian organization from Vienna who has been helping to war victims. We organised collection of solidarity - we gathered clothes, blankets, shoes and promoted ways how people could contribute.
Movie screening "Flood in Baath Country"

Let’s watch some documentary or movie connected to Syria and discuss it with Syrians! This event will be organized by Syrians and opened for everybody. Tasty food and yummy movie connected to Syria. We watched "Flood in Baath Country", movie by Omar Amiralay. It's was insight to how Baath party and the Assad family formed Syria and the Syrian society during the last 50 years.

Syreczech is over (at least for this year) and we would like to throw a party. There is definitely a reason for that - during the last few months we managed to organize series of public discussions, screenings and intercultural evenings and we would like you to celebrate with us!
On December 19th you should be ready for:

- Great opportunity to get to know Syrians, people of Brno, expats, NGOs and their stories

March for Aleppo
Sunday 29/01/2017, -Evening with March for Aleppo
Have you heard about the Civil march for Aleppo? It's a march of people, who decided to draw attention to what is happening in Syria by walking a part of the route from Berlin to Aleppo. That weekend they stopped in Brno! As Czech and Syrian community in Brno, we welcomed them and hosted them on their long journey. That Sunday at 3pm we met with them to talk about Syria and let them tasted some of delicious Syrian food. We started at 3pm with the Skype bridge with Salah Al-Askhar and Hozaifa Dhmaan that are still in Syria and then at 5pm there was a dinner organized by the members of Syreczech.
WHITE helmets
Tuesday 28/03/2017 -WHITE helmets: projection and discussion of war in Syria
"When I want to save someone’s life I don’t care if he’s an enemy or a friend. What concerns me is the soul that might die" - Abed, The White Helmets member. We did a Screening of the oscar-winning short documentary movie with following discussion with a Syrian activist living in Brno Ibrahim Nahhas and with the movie cinematographer behind the movie joining us via Skype from Syria Fadi Al Halabi. It happened at, 5PM, at Faculty of Social Studies, room U42 (4th floor), Joštova 10, Brno.

Syria as you won't see in the media

Would you like to discover more about Syria & Syrian culture? Do you think there is more about Syria than it is represented in the media?
Czechs and Syrians from Brno invited people to spectacular evening full of food, music and nice atmosphere! they came and discovered a different culture in a friendly environment. Entrance was free and they could look forward to Syrian food prepared by us. 🍲 Around 200 people joined, luckily the place we booked was big enough and we had a lot of food prepared!

Sunday walk with Syreczech
29 July 2018
We took approximately 3 hours walk through Obora Holedná - but the route was also suitable for children, accessible with prams! We had have few stops, and talked a bit about nature and environment - because knowing more helps us to preserve the nature!
Syrian fiesta
16 February 2019
Brno people and Syrians together organized a cultural event where everyone had a chance to taste Syrian food, meet new friends or learn to dance traditional dabke dance. Again, this event was very sucessfull, because around 200 people joined us and had wonderful time!
